Be The First To Comment
Written by Louis on July 24, 2008 – 8:44 pm -Comments can be a killer way to get free traffic and even though most comments are nofollowed, anecdotal evidence says they have at least some SEO benefit. Free traffic? Some SEO benefit? Where can I sign up?
Hold your horses, the further down you are in the list of the comments the lower the traffic potency of your comment. If you’re like me, you read the first few comments and then skim the rest of them. It’s only natural that if you want maximum benefit then you gotta be the first to comment. You want your comment to be the first readers see and the first they might click on.
I schedule commenting time as part of my weekly web promotion schedule. When it’s time for a commenting session, I cruise on over to Technorati and see which blogs have newly posted content. I visit the ones with a medium popularity ranking and then post some thoughtful comments. (Hint to idiots: Don’t make the comments too spammy, I don’t know anyone with the name Debt Consolidation, do you?) I make sure I put my link in the URL field and if, and only if, I think I can add to the post made, I post a link to a related article that I’ve already written.
Easy, right? So what are you waiting for? Get to work promoting those blogs.
